Important Facts to know about Mould
- Mould will grown anywhere where there is moisture, oxygen, food source and the right climate conditions
- They can grow on paper, carpet, insulation etc. They require organic material and water to grow. Gyprock walls and wood and other cellulosic material are very susceptible to mould
- They can cause structural damage and have adverse health effects

- Moisture can pass through cracks in the walls and floors
- The warm air underneath the house will dry the moisture from the soil and take it into the air. The humid air can carry moisture into your house.

Water Damage
- Failure to Dry structure and contents properly after flooding is a common cause of mould
- It is recommended that you call a IICRC approved technician to remediate your property as soon as possible after water damage. The longer the damage is left, the higher chance mould will develop.
- After water damage in a building mould can grown inside walls and remain dormant until high humidity conditions occure
- In many cases it will take many months until the mould problem will come out again.

Air Ventilation Duct (HVAC)

Ventilation, Air Conditioning Ducts ect.
- Air-conditioning Ducts have potential to spread mould throughout the entire building
- Mould can grow on the inside of Air-conditioning ducts. They should be cleaned regularly.
- Ducts can have insulation in them. If the insulation is contaminated by mould, removal should be considered.
- If Air ducts are dormant for some time it can draw moisture from other sources such as bathrooms, carpet cleaning, mopping etc.

Condensation and Humidity in the house

It is recommended to seek the advice of a mould inspecting professional. However, it is possible to remediate the mould if the moisture source and affected areas can be reached. We recommend many clients to:
- Use exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens
- Take away mould food source (organic materials, paper, leather etc.)
- Fix Leaking plumbing
- Use respiratory protection
- Dry clothes on the clothesline outside
- Cut down overgrown foliage and gardens around the property
- Increase lighting within the house
- Maintain low humidity within the building.
