Timber Floor Moisture Testing

We use a Delmhorst Moisture Meter

We can monitor the extent of water damage on timber floors through the use of a hammer probe (see picture on left) attached to a Delmhorst moisture meter. This will give us an indication of the moisture present in the wood, and will give us an idea of the risks (cupping & buckling) involved. Moisture meter corrections are used to cater for the many different types of wood, to ensure accurate collection of data.

Moisture content can also be measured more accurately through oven dry testing. This can give more accurate results, also, this test may be needed if the species of the wood is unknown.

Thermal Imaging to Detect Moisture

In this picture we can see that the thermal imaging camera has picked up water damage near the skirting boards. This area is cooler and thus will show as a darker colour on the thermal imaging camera.
