How to Dry Wet Carpet in Your Home:
Some Issues to Consider

By Lex Moir - New Life Restoration Brisbane

In most cases drying of flooded carpet is covered by insurance. But if you choose to recover the carpet yourself then here are some questions to consider:

Is the Carpet Recoverable?

If there is mould or sewage involved it is highly recommended that the carpet is thrown away.  In most jobs that we attend, the carpet it recoverable with our water damage restoration process.

Are there Wet Walls Involved?

Mould can start to grow within 3 days after the water damage and leave nasty unhealthy smells in your home. This is why it is important to have wet walls dried professionally. New Life Restoration use an Injectidry system and turbo vents to dry inside walls.

Is there wet timber floors underneath your carpet?

Wood floors can be difficult to dry because they can easily warp (parquetry flooring especially). New Life Restoration uses an Injectidry system along with air movers and dehumidifiers to suck the moisture out of timber floors.

Have you got Rubber underlay underneath the carpet or foam underlay?

Most homes in Brisbane have either foam or rubber underlay. Foam underlay can take longer to dry than rubber underlay. In some cases the foam underlay will need to be completely taken out and dried separately to the carpet.

Ok so we have considered some of the implications of water damage. What do I do now?

If you choose to dry the wet carpet yourself then it is important to consider that mould can be dangerous and it is important that the water damage is dried up as soon as possible and by a trained IICRC qualified expert.
